The League of Women Voters of Metro St. Louis is moderating a forum for Wildwood Mayoral and City Council Candidates on Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, at 7:00 pm, at Wildwood City Hall - Council Chambers, 16860 Main Street, 63040. The City of Wildwood is co-sponsoring the forum.

The public will have the opportunity to learn more about the Wildwood Mayoral and City Council Candidates by hearing them speak and answer questions in a public forum. The Mayoral Candidate is Jim Bowlin. In ballot order, the City Council Candidates are: Ward 1, Glen DeHart; Ward 2, Ray Manton and Joe Pirrello; Ward 3, Jim Baugus; Ward 4, Marc Cox; Ward 5, Debra Smith McCutchen and Debbie Sinden; Ward 6, Jerry Porter; Ward 7, Jeffrey S. Levitt; and Ward 8, Larry Goodson.

This very popular class is being offered in March and preregistration is required! This parent/child class, led by a St. Louis Children’s Hospital facilitator, will help parents and children determine the child’s physical, mental, social and emotional readiness to stay home by themselves. This class will also help prepare them for this experience.

Baby Sitting 101 Class @ Wildwood City Hall

This very popular class requires preregistration! Baby Sitting 101 is taught by an instructor from St. Louis Children’s Hospital and a fantastic introduction to the basics of babysitting. Lunch and a 28-page workbook are provided. Topics include: the business of babysitting; child development; safety and first aid; and fun and games.The details of the class are:

Outdoor Enthusiasts  and Trail Running Fanatics
The Barkley Marathons Film Presentation 

About a year ago, the City of  Wildwood partnered with the B & B Theater, Terrain Trail Runners, and Terrain Magazine to present fun, adventurous, and interesting films about outdoor events that require fitness, determination and, well, a little lunacy! To our surprise, the films that have been shown to this point have all sold out! Hopefully, this next production will not be an exception!! On Friday, March 11, 2016, The Barkley Marathons will be presented at the B & B Theater, at 7:00 p.m. Never heard of the Barkley Marathons? Many people haven’t! It’s labeled as a race that eats its young! It’s a trail race/run that began in 1986 and, since that time, only 14 runners have finished before the established cut-off!!

The Barkley Marathons is a documentary film about this incredible event and the people that train to attempt it!! The film was awarded the Best Documentary during the Kansas City Film Festival, received the Best Audience Awards, during the Austin Film Festival and the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival, and was a top 20 Audience Favorite at the HOT DOCS  Film Festival!!  The City of Wildwood and its partners bring this showing to your attention BECAUSE THERE ARE STILL SEATS AVAILABLE!!! Wildwood Early Childhood Recreation Program  

The March Early Childhood Recreation Program is open for registration, but there is a very limited number of spaces remaining!!! The Pottery Painting Program is always popular and classes do fill quickly!! The program takes place at Wildwood City Hall, on March 23 and 24, 2016, with two (2) classes each day at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Register at the following link: www.cityofwildwood.com/activities. 2016 Spring Balloon Glow

The 2016 Spring Balloon Glow is scheduled for Friday, March 18, 2016, at the Wildwood Town Center Plaza. Start your weekend off on Friday evening between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. with music, food, booths organized by the Wildwood Business Association (WBA), and, of course, the glowing hot air balloons!! Get your picture with a bunny, play in the craft tent, or just enjoy the balloons! Whatever you do, it’s a fast and fun two (2) hours! So put it on your calendar! More information will follow over the next few weeks!

City of Wildwood's 2016 Wildwood Spring Egg Hunt  

It’s back!! The Spring Egg Hunt will take place on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Fairway Elementary School (480 Old Fairway Drive, Wildwood, Missouri. 63040), between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon. BE THERE READY TO HUNT EGGS AT 10:00 A.M.! LETS REPEAT THAT ….. BE THERE, IN PLACE, READY TO HUNT EGGS AT 10:00 A.M. SHARP!! If you arrive two (2) minutes late, the 14,000 eggs will be history!!! Of course, even if you are late (but, please don’t be, your egg hunter will be disappointed), there will be bounce houses, a giant bunny, balloon artists, popcorn, hot dogs, AND BABALOO!!! Like always, it will be a fabulous morning! So, place the Egg Hunt on your calendar, bring your own basket, arrive early (before 10:00 a.m.), and be prepared to enjoy two (2) hours of extreme fun!! Wildwood-Centaur Bicycle Time Trial 

The Wildwood Centaur Bicycle Time Trial is scheduled for Saturday morning, March 19, 2016. This eleven (11) mile time trial race starts and finishes on Centaur Road, at North Eatherton Road, and will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. This time trial event is part of a weekend Tour of St. Louis Event, which consists of three (3) races occurring on Saturday and Sunday. The Wildwood Centaur Time Trial kicks off the weekend event, with a flat, winding, and fast out-and-back course along Centaur and Wild Horse Creek Road. The event is limited to a maximum of 180 riders! Participants will be sent out in one minute intervals and, while competitive, is a lot of fun! Interested bicyclists can preregister on Friday, March 18, 2016, between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., at Big Shark Bicycle Company LOOP, 6133 Delmar Boulevard. The City is hosting a brand new 2-day scrapbooking event in April. Come join us for the Wildwood Spring Crop on Friday, April 15th from 5:00 pm to midnight and Saturday, April 16th from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Your fee of $30 includes the following:

  • an individual 6-foot table;
  • dinner on Friday night;
  • breakfast and lunch on Saturday;
  • snacks and drinks on both days;
  • a 10-minute massage on Saturday; and
  • entry into drawings for attendance prices.
 
If you want to stay nearby, you can take advantage of our group rate at The Wildwood Hotel. The rate is $90+tax for single or double occupancy. $10 each additional person (up to 4 total people per room). Wildwood Arbor Day Tree Hugger Run 

A friendly reminder!! The 2nd Annual Wildwood Arbor Day Tree Hugger Run is scheduled for Friday evening, April 29, 2016!! This run is a really great 5K and a fabulous and energetic way to  start a Friday evening!!! Full steam ahead with your New Year’s resolution!! Register now on the Big River Running's website at https://register.chronotrack.com/r/17941 or pick up a registration form from Wildwood City Hall! The run starts and finishes at LaSalle Springs Middle School and begins promptly at 7:00 p.m. Participants will run on asphalt trails, standard roadways, and chat trails! Runners will travel through a  tunnel, cross a 194-foot bridge, and run along the beautiful Meramec River! You will want to finish fast because there will be plenty of pizza, refreshments, and music waiting for you at the finish line! Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers and three (3) deep in each age group. Special prizes this year for the overall finishers … gift cards to a local plant nursery!!! After all, this is an Arbor Day Run!!! The Wildwood Arbor Day Tree Hugger Run is a wonderful family event! The Shoeman Water Project Shoe Drive Continues 

at Wildwood City Hall

Thanks to everyone who has donated shoes, boots, and sandals to the Shoeman Water Project.  The donation boxes are located at City Hall, 16860 Main Street, in the 1st Floor Foyer.  We appreciate everyone’s support of this worthwhile organization.  To learn more about the Shoeman Water Project, visit www.shoemanwater.org/.

 Larger Recycling Carts Are Available to Residents

If you find the 65 gallon cart to be too small for your weekly recyclables, please call Meridian Waste Services, at (314) 291-3131, and request one of the larger recycling carts.  Meridian will replace your 65 gallon recycling cart, with a new 95 gallon recycle cart AT NO CHARGE (the old carts cannot be utilized for anything, but recycling, and will be redistributed to those needing the smaller carts).

American Flag Disposal

The City of Wildwood accepts retired American flags for dignified disposal.  Please bring worn flags to City Hall, 16860 Main Street, and leave them with the receptionist.  All flags collected will be relinquished to the Boy Scouts of America for proper disposal.  US Flags should never be placed in the trash.

Activity at the City Council Meeting held on February 22, 2016, included the following: 

  • A public hearing was held regarding - H.R. 1-16 Robert H. Butler Trust, c/o John Butler, 16941 Manchester Road, Wildwood, Missouri 63040 – A request to place the building (c. 1929 per St. Louis County Tax Records), which is located at 16941 Manchester Road, onto the City of Wildwood’s Historic Registry, all in accordance with Chapter 440 Historic Preservation and Restoration Code of the City of Wildwood Municipal Code. This registry request by the petitioner seeks certain zoning incentives relative to required open space and roadway improvements associated with the future use of the property. (Ward - Eight) The City Council authorized the Department of Planning to prepare the necessary legislation to approve this request.
  • Approved - BILL #2153 authorizing the Mayor to execute on behalf of the City of Wildwood with N.B. West Contracting Company for construction of the Manchester Road resurfacing and bike lane improvement project, including traffic control and other incidental items as shown on construction drawings and specifications. (Ward – One)
  • Approved BILL #2154 authorizing the Mayor to execute a contract on behalf of the City of Wildwood with J.M. Marschuetz Construction Company for City-wide concrete street and sidewalk replacement, including traffic control and other incidental items as shown on construction drawings and specifications. (Wards – All)
  • Approved BILL #2155 authorizing the Mayor to execute a supplemental agreement on behalf of the City of Wildwood with TWM, Inc. for additional design services required for the Manchester Road Streetscape Project, Phase 3 Improvement Project within the City of Wildwood. (Ward – Eight)
  • Approved Resolution #2016-06 - adopting a policy on e-newsletter and social media content for the City of Wildwood. (Wards – All)
  • Approved Amended Resolution #2016-07 - to apply through the East-West Gateway Council of Governments and the Missouri Department of Transportation for funding of a Capital Project under the Surface Transportation Program - suballocated (STP-S) Federal Funding Program for the St. Louis Region. (Wards – One and Eight)
  • Approved expenditures from the City of Wildwood’s General Operating Account pursuant to Chapter 140, Section 140.050 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Wildwood.
  • Reconsidered and Passed BILL #2149 an ordinance determining the compensation for the office of the Mayor and amending Section 110.040 of the Municipal Code. (Wards – All) VETOED by the Mayor of the City of Wildwood on February 22, 2016. Veto Message to be provided at the March 14, 2016 City Council Meeting.
  • Reconsidered and Passed Bill #2150 an ordinance determining the compensation for City Council Members and amending Section 110.110 of the Municipal Code. Garden Buddies Application - 2016
Football - Eureka Jr. Wildcats

What:  Come play football this fall with the Eureka Junior Wildcats!  Eureka Junior Wildcat Football is a non-profit youth football program. The primary objective of the program is to teach the fundamentals of the game and prepare athletes for playing football at Eureka High School.  All home games are scheduled to be played at Eureka High School.
When:  Registration will open on March 1, 2016.  Practices will start the first week of August, and the season will conclude in October.
Who:  Students in 3rd grade to 8th grade that plan to attend Eureka High School.
Why:  This program is an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of Eureka High School football and to have fun playing the sport.
How Much:  The cost is $300.00  Players will receive a personalized jersey, which they will get to keep. Players are responsible for obtaining their own black pants and other personal equipment (i.e., chinstraps, cleats, and mouth guards).  The Junior Wildcat organization will provide shoulder pads and helmets for use during the season (and a deposit will be necessary at the time of pick up).
