Early Childhood Recreation Program – April 2016
"Abra-Kid-Abra"

Spaces Still Available for Budding Magicians

The City of Wildwood's Early Childhood Recreation Program is pleased to present the magicians from Abra-Kid-Abra who will present a one-hour Magic Show for pre-school age children, 2 through 5 years of age.  The programs are scheduled for Wednesday, April 13, 2016 and Thursday, April 14, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., each day. 2016 Work Season

Since the incorporation of the City, each year, the City has been replacing concrete slabs in many of the residential subdivisions. This program provides preventative maintenance and helps to maintain property values in these locations. Summer Swimming Pool Passes  

For the summer of 2016, reduced-rate swimming pool passes are available to the residents of Wildwood for the City of Ballwin's North Pointe Aquatic Center and the City of Ellisville's The Edge. The details of the pool pass program are as follows:


The North Pointe Family Aquatic Center, in the City of Ballwin, will make family pool passes available to Wildwood residents this summer.  Arrangements have been made and a limited number of pool passes can be purchased beginning March 21, 2016, at The Pointe at Ballwin Commons Recreation Center, #1 Ballwin Commons Circle, Ballwin, Missouri  63021. The passes will go on sale at 5:15 a.m.  A family pool pass will be available for $189.00 through April 30, 2016, and thereafter $210.00.  Keep in mind, pool passes for the North Pointe Family Aquatic Center are limited and will be available to the first fifty (50) interested Wildwood residents.  Location and contact information concerning the North Pointe Family Aquatic Center is:

The Edge Aquatic Center, in the City of Ellisville, will offer unlimited swimming pool pass availability through the entire summer of 2016. Passes are on sale now and will be available through May 19, 2016 for $148.00. Purchased passes are good for a family of four (4). Add twenty dollars ($20.00) to the cost for each family member over four (4) members. Beginning May 20, 2016, pool passes will cost $165.00. Location and contact information is:

*Please note, when purchasing pool passes at the Ellisville or Ballwin facilities, please have identification (Driver’s License) and proof of residency (Personal Property Tax Receipt), and an unpaid gas, water, electric or sewer bill.

These costs are very generous offers from the Cities of Ballwin and Ellisville, which allows Wildwood residents to take advantage of their incredible facilities all summer long. Thanks to our neighboring cities for their gracious offers in this regard.

The Wildwood Car Club is doing a dinner cruise Saturday evening, April 9, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. to Benedetto's Italian restaurant on Main Street, Town Center, Wildwood, Missouri. Weather permitting, drive your toy cars to the Town Center.

The City is hosting a brand new 2-day scrapbooking event in April. Come join us for the Wildwood Spring Crop on Friday, April 15th from 5:00 pm to midnight and Saturday, April 16th from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Your fee of $30 includes the following:

  • an individual 6-foot table;
  • dinner on Friday night;
  • breakfast and lunch on Saturday;
  • snacks and drinks on both days;
  • a 10-minute massage on Saturday; and
  • entry into drawings for attendance prices.
If you want to stay nearby, you can take advantage of our group rate at The Wildwood Hotel. The rate is $90+tax for single or double occupancy. $10 each additional person (up to 4 total people per room). "NIGHT SKIES OVER BABLER - 4/16/2016"

Come explore the night sky at the park. The evening will kick off at the Visitor Center with a one-hour program called “The All-American Eclipse Comes to Missouri.” After the program, members of the St. Louis Astronomical Society will set up telescopes in the monument field to offer visitors a view of the night sky. Telescopes will be pointed at a variety of sites, including the 1st quarter moon, Jupiter and its moons, and the many star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies. Everyone is encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and binoculars.

Wildwood Arbor Day Tree Hugger Run 

A friendly reminder!! The 2nd Annual Wildwood Arbor Day Tree Hugger Run is scheduled for Friday evening, April 29, 2016!! This run is a really great 5K and a fabulous and energetic way to  start a Friday evening!!! Full steam ahead with your New Year’s resolution!! Register now on the Big River Running's website at https://register.chronotrack.com/r/17941 or pick up a registration form from Wildwood City Hall! The run starts and finishes at LaSalle Springs Middle School and begins promptly at 7:00 p.m. Participants will run on asphalt trails, standard roadways, and chat trails! Runners will travel through a  tunnel, cross a 194-foot bridge, and run along the beautiful Meramec River! You will want to finish fast because there will be plenty of pizza, refreshments, and music waiting for you at the finish line! Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers and three (3) deep in each age group. Special prizes this year for the overall finishers: Gift Cards to a local plant nursery!!! After all, this is an Arbor Day Run!!! The Wildwood Arbor Day Tree Hugger Run is a wonderful family event! Pavilion Rentals

With Spring here, families and friends gather to celebrate milestones such a birthdays, graduations, and anniversaries. Looking for an outdoor venue to hold your celebration?  The City of Wildwood has two (2) beautiful park pavilions available for your upcoming events. 
 
Anniversary Park and Old Pond School Park have great outdoor pavilions available for your families and friends to join you on your special celebrations. The pavilions at Anniversary Park and Old Pond School hold up to thirty (30) people. The parks have playground equipment and also provide picnic tables.

The Shoeman Water Project Shoe Drive Continues 
at Wildwood City Hall

Thanks to everyone who has donated shoes, boots, and sandals to the Shoeman Water Project.  The donation boxes are located at City Hall, 16860 Main Street, in the 1st Floor Foyer.  We appreciate everyone’s support of this worthwhile organization.  To learn more about the Shoeman Water Project, visit www.shoemanwater.org/.

 

Larger Recycling Carts Are Available to Residents

If you find the 65 gallon cart to be too small for your weekly recyclables, please call Meridian Waste Services, at (314) 291-3131, and request one of the larger recycling carts.  Meridian will replace your 65 gallon recycling cart, with a new 95 gallon recycle cart AT NO CHARGE (the old carts cannot be utilized for anything, but recycling, and will be redistributed to those needing the smaller carts).


American Flag Disposal

The City of Wildwood accepts retired American flags for dignified disposal.  Please bring worn flags to City Hall, 16860 Main Street, and leave them with the receptionist.  All flags collected will be relinquished to the Boy Scouts of America for proper disposal.  US Flags should never be placed in the trash.

Officers assigned to the St. Louis County Police Department, Tactical Operations Unit, will present summaries of various active shooter events and provide up-to-date data from the Federal Bureau of Investigations relating to active shooter events which have occurred in the United States.


This program will include a presentation of the Department of Homeland Security’s “RUN, HIDE, FIGHT” Program. This  options- based program provides alternatives to maximize personal safety, if an active shooter incident were to occur. Seasonal Interpreters

 
General Work Responsibilities: Seasonal interpreters plan and present programs and activities for park visitors. Seasonal employees may also assist the research and resource management projects. Specific responsibilities vary from site to site.
 
Minimum Job Requirements: Attending a college or university with at least a freshman standing and majoring in any of the natural sciences, history, cultural resource management, outdoor recreation, or interpretive services; or have work experience as an interpreter with an agency charged with natural or cultural resource responsibilities.
 
Duties could include, but not limited to:
• The development and presentation of original interpretive programs such as nature walks, stargazing programs, historical tours, first-person interpretations and campfire programs.

• Research local natural and cultural history related to specific parks and historic sites.
• Assist in the care of interpretive facilities, nature trails, displays, and special natural or cultural features of a park.
• Provide information to the visitors concerning rules and regulations, safety, points of interest, and available facilities.
• Carry out regularly established interpretive programs developed by the full-time staff.
