Fox Creek Road Bridge Replacement Project
ROAD CLOSURE Information

The City’s contractor, Krupp Construction, is making good progress on the bridge replacement project that is located on Fox Creek Road, south of State Route 100. The project will replace the existing one lane, substandard bridge, with a new structure consisting of two 11’ driving lanes and 4’ shoulders. Fox Creek Road was CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC at the bridge location, as of SEPTEMBER 6, 2016 and will remain closed for the duration of construction. Detour signs and other advance warning signs will be in place during construction. For the detour route, motorists will be directed to use State Route 100 to Melrose Road and Allenton Road. The closure is expected to be in place until December 2016. For more information, please contact the Department of Public Works by calling (636) 458-0440.

Wildwood Early Childhood Recreation Program

A Few Openings Still Remain for this Fun Program
at Zick's Great Outdoors

The October Early Childhood Recreation Program is open for registration! Join us for the ever popular event – Pumpkin Decorating!  Each child will decorate a pumpkin and get to take their creation home with them!  The program will last about 45 minutes and will take place at Zick’s Great Outdoors Nursery & Landscaping (16498 Clayton Road, Wildwood, MO  63011) on October 12 and 13, 2016!  There will be a 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. session on each day.  Two (2) of the four (4) sessions are filled and the remaining others are nearing capacity, so sign up now! Register at the following link: www.cityofwildwood.com/activities.  Look for the 'Early Childhood Recreation Program for October 12 or 13, 2016 (Pumpkin Decorating)' and click on the register button! A parent or guardian must stay with the child during the session. November 2016 Edition 

The November Early Childhood Recreation Program, featuring the World Bird Sanctuary, will open for registration on Monday, October 10, 2016!  Starting on this date, you can register your child at www.cityofwildwood.com/activities for the 10:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. sessions on either November 9th or 10th!  Come join us to learn about some really interesting birds and get to see them up close! This program will be held in the Community Room, at Wildwood City Hall (16860 Main Street, Wildwood, Missouri 63040), and each session will last about 45 minutes, followed by a snack. The sessions are sure to fill up quick, so go to www.cityofwildwood.com/activities starting on Monday, October 10th to register!  Look for the “Early Childhood – World Bird Sanctuary” Program banner and click the "Register" button by the session you would like to attend!  A parent or guardian must stay with the child during the session.  Questions?  Call Amanda or Gary at 636-458-0440.

Meet and Greet - Saturday, October 15, 2016, on One-Room Schoolhouses

Before It Was Wildwood: One-Room Schoolhouses 

The Wildwood Historical Society invites you to join us at the Old Pond School on Saturday, October 15th @ 4:00 p.m. Come see a restored one-room schoolhouse! Local author and Wildwood Historical Society volunteer Karen Fox will share her journey on researching the early one-room schoolhouses throughout western St. Louis County. Historian Lynn Josse will also share history about Old Pond School and its placement on the National Register of Historic Places. Attendees will also have an opportunity to hear from one-room schoolhouse alumni.

When: Saturday, October 15, 2016 - 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.
Where: 17123 Manchester Road (just west of Highway 109)
 
This event is FREE and open to the public, recommended for all ages.

The Wildwood Car Club will have a dinner cruise to Wildwood Pub and Grill on Saturday evening October 15, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. Weather permitting, everyone is asked to drive the Classics. If it rains, come in a car that can get wet. No reservations needed, we have a reserved room at the Wildwood Pub & Grill on College Avenue and State Route 109. Wildwood Route 66 5K Run/Walk/Fun Run

The 15th Annual Wildwood Route 66 5K Run/Walk/Fun Run is scheduled for Saturday, October 29, 2016. The start/finish of the event is at Wildwood Middle School, 17401 Manchester Road. There are many 5K Runs to choose from at this time of the year, but the Route 66 5K has lots to offer!!! It is a competitive and challenging 5K run for the speedsters, a wonderful course for casual runners looking for a great way to start a Saturday morning, and a refreshing brisk walk for those looking to catch up with friends!!! And, it is a great family event!! It all takes place on Historic Route 66!!

There are refreshments before and after the run, shirts to all registered 5K runners, awards to the top three (3) overall male and female finishers and the top three (3) in each ten (10) year age group!! This year, the half mile Kids Fun Run will take place on Historic Route 66 also!! They will start and finish at the same places mom and dad did! All Kids Fun Run participants will get a medal, as they cross the finish line. Oh, don’t forget, the kids can wear their Halloween costume during the fun run! Finally, the Wildwood Route 66 5K will also benefit the YMCA Annual Campaign! 

The run starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. You can register at https://register.chronotrack.com/r/23350, or at the Big River Running Company Website, or submit a paper application to Wildwood City Hall, 16860 Main Street, Wildwood, Missouri 63040. Please remember, you must register by October 17, 2016, to be guaranteed a shirt size of your choice!! Your packet can be picked up at Wildwood City Hall on Friday, October 28, 2016, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. or on race morning, between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. There is race day registration, but remember, a shirt in your size cannot be guaranteed. BE BRAVE 5K - Benefitting the Special Olympics

The BE BRAVE 5K is scheduled on November 19, 2016! This 5K will start and finish at LaSalle Springs Middle School, 3300 State Route 109, Wildwood, Missouri  63038. The course follows  a series of trails in the City of Wildwood, which includes the Hamilton-Carr Greenway and the Al Foster Memorial Trail. It is an incredibly flat and fast trail run for those who are being competitive and a wonderfully pleasant walk for those wanting to enjoy nature! The best part about the BE BRAVE 5K is that it benefits the Special Olympics! All proceeds will go towards that wonderful event. This is a great time of  year to be  outside …. especially for a brisk run!!

Wildwood Frozen Feet Half Marathon Trail Run   

OK Readers!!! Pay Attention to this One!!

The 7th Annual Wildwood Frozen Feet Half Marathon Trail Run is scheduled for January 21, 2017. This popular run starts and finishes at LaSalle Springs Middle School and covers 13.1 miles of beautiful Wildwood trails! This run has become one of the top rated trail runs in the St. Louis Metro Area and has filled to capacity the last three years. The  race is capped at three hundred (300) participants at the present time. You will not find a better trail running value than the Wildwood Frozen Feet Trail Run!! Organizers wanted to put on a quality trail running event that was challenging, fun, and affordable ….. and that has been accomplished. 

An unbelievable trail run, plenty of food and drink, finisher medals for everyone crossing the finish line, a wonderfully warm and comfortable hooded sweatshirt, and awards to the top three finishers in each of the five year age groups!! The run is doable by runners of any experience level, but will  present a subtle challenge to those wanting to be competitive! Runners will pass aid stations seven (7) times on the course, where water will be available, but if you want/require special needs, come self-contained! January 21, 2017 seems to be a long way off, but registration opened last Thursday and large number of veteran Frozen Feet runners immediately registered!! Needless to say, the event will likely fill long before 2017 even arrives!!!

Pavilion Rentals @ City Park Facilities

This Fall Season offers many delights for outdoor events and to enjoy the colors and cooler temperatures! Looking for an outdoor venue to hold your family reunion or homecoming event this fall? The City of Wildwood has three (3) beautiful park pavilions available for your upcoming events. 
 
Anniversary Park and Old Pond School Park have great outdoor pavilions available for your family and friends to join you on your special celebrations. The pavilions at Anniversary Park and Old Pond School hold up to thirty (30) people. The parks have playground equipment and also provide picnic tables.

The City's new Community Park has a pavilion, with convenient restrooms a part of it, that seats over one hundred (100). Nearby is the all-inclusive playground and the great outdoors!

The Shoeman Water Project Shoe Drive Continues 
at Wildwood City Hall

American Flag Disposal

The City of Wildwood accepts retired American flags for dignified disposal.  Please bring worn flags to City Hall, 16860 Main Street, and leave them with the receptionist. All flags collected will be relinquished to the Boy Scouts of America for proper disposal. US Flags should never be placed in the trash.
