City of Wildwood Mosquito Control Services

The City of Wildwood contracts with the St. Louis County Department of Health for the treatment of areas that are prone to having large populations of mosquitoes.  Wildwood is in the region of the County scheduled for Sunday nights or early (before sunrise) Monday mornings.  Residents can email the County at vector.doh@stlouisco.com and request to have an email notification of when they are spraying by a particular address.  You just need to include your email address and your home address.  With your home address, the County can assign you to an email group and will notify you the afternoon before the spraying is scheduled that evening.  Additionally, you can call St. Louis County’s hotline on Sunday evenings (after 6:00 p.m.) and the recording will let you know the areas they are scheduled to spray that evening.  That number is (314) 615-4BUG or (314) 615-4284.

 
City Council Activity - August 10, 2015

  • Approved BILL #2117 authorizing an amendment to existing C-8 Planned Commercial District Ordinance #2017, which governs the reuse of a historic building for future office activities and related uses, by allowing a twelve (12) month extension of time for the submittal and action upon the Site Development Plan, all in keeping with the Planning and Zoning Commission’s Letter of Recommendation being dated June 15, 2015. (Ward Eight)
  • Approved Bill #2119 authorizing the vacation of Melrose Valley Drive, a private, non-exclusive, fifty (50) foot wide roadway easement, as well as its associated fifty (50) foot building line, all of which are located within the Melrose Woods Subdivision, specifically situated on the west side of Melrose Road, south of Melrose Woods Drive, for the purpose of eliminating this  encumbrance, since it is no longer necessary for its intended purpose, with agreement between the respective holders of right. (Ward Six)
  • Approved Resolution #2015-24 authorizing a purchase order, on behalf of this community with Gaehle Contracting Services, for the 2015 Wildwood BBQ Bash Event. (Wards – All)
  • Approved Resolution #2015-25 authorizing the City to issue a purchase order, on behalf of this community with First Student, for the 2015 Wildwood BBQ Bash Event. (Wards – All)
  • Approved Resolution #2015-26 authorizing a purchase order, on behalf of this community with Portable Water Closet, LLC, for the 2015 Wildwood BBQ Bash Event. (Wards – All)

Missouri American Water Reminds Customers to Be Aware of Utility Worker Imposters (PRESS RELEASE)

St. Louis County, Missouri - August 13. 2015

Recently, local law enforcement has reported cases of individuals impersonating water company employees in several West County cities. Missouri American Water reminds its customers to be wary of individuals who try to gain access to their homes by posing as utility employees.
 
Missouri American Water reminds customers that Missouri American Water customer service employees drive vehicles that prominently display the company’s logo. Missouri American Water employees also have official identification with them. Customers should ask for identification anytime a person requests access to their home.
 
If a customer suspects that a person is posing as a Missouri American Water employee, the customer should contact the St. Louis County Police Department dialing 911 and Missouri American Water Company’s 24/7 Customer Service Center at 1-866-430-0820 and local law enforcement if the situation warrants.
 

Employment Opportunity - Deputy City Administrator/City Clerk

The City of Wildwood, Missouri (pop: 35,517) is seeking an experienced Deputy City Administrator/City Clerk.  The ideal candidate will be able to perform complex, highly responsible administrative and managerial duties assisting the City Administrator in directing and coordinating administrative work relating to the full range of municipal management issues as needed and to help promote the City’s committed efforts for sustainable, long-term economic development in a manner consistent with the City’s Vision Statement. Preferred candidates will possess strong initiative, attention to detail, and an ability to effectively problem solve and work on several projects/programs concurrently and effectively. Must have knowledge of the principles of City government administration, organization, budget, economic development, marketing/communications, legislative processes, and personnel management.
 
Duties include directing the activities of City departments and offices based on general direction and policy of the City Administrator and City Council. Position has a high degree of independence and initiative, latitude in exercise of independent judgment concerning assigned duties. Must be familiar with City Clerk duties and the legal requirements relating to municipal records, policies regarding meetings, and any laws applicable to administration of the city clerk’s office; position requires taking minutes at monthly City Council meetings and other meetings as assigned. Candidate must have strong writing skills in order to produce reports, correspondence, meeting minutes and citizen communications; must use good judgment and maintain confidentiality of personal and private information of citizens and officials.
 
Prefer bachelor degree in Business Administration or equivalent education. August Wildwood Historical Society Program

The August program of the Wildwood Historical Society (WHS) will feature a history of the Wabash, Frisco, & Pacific (WF&P) Railroad Association, Inc. This organization was originally formed in 1939, when a group of railway enthusiasts acquired a twelve (12) inch gauge steam locomotive (Engine #171) and the use of a 30-acre estate located on the southeast corner of Brown Road and Natural Bridge Road, in North St. Louis County. Since 1961, the association has continued its fine tradition of providing locomotive rides for children and families in the Historic Village of Glencoe, within the City of Wildwood. If you would like to learn more about this railroad and its history, please come to the program on August 18!

On August 28, 29, and 30, 2015, Wildwood will celebrate its twentieth anniversary.  This event, Celebrate Wildwood, will have something for everybody, so mark your calendar now and don’t miss it.  This year, the City is proud to announce that, on August 28th, Friday night, the United States Air Force Band of Mid-America’s group – Starlifter will be the headlining entertainment.  At the conclusion, of the band’s performance, fireworks will follow.

After Friday’s great kickoff to the weekend, Saturday’s Celebrate Wildwood schedule is full as well.  If you like parades, music, great cars, art, good food and drink, and friendly people, this event is the place for you on Saturday, August 29, 2015.  It all starts at 9:00 a.m. and this day’s festivities conclude at 9:30 p.m., with another fireworks show, highlighting the music of the Smash Band, featuring Smash himself, who is returning from his new home in Arizona for this concert.  Don’t forget, this day is only the second of three days and Sunday is special too.  For more information, please visit www.celebratewildwood.com

Wildwood is Almost 20 – Part III

Many in the Wildwood community may not be aware of the significant interest that exists among many of our residents in the arts.  This interest led to a group of them forming a committee to promote art and artists in Wildwood.  The outcome of its efforts is now the 2nd Annual Celebrate Wildwood Art Festival.  This year, 60 artists are participating and will bring their unique talents right to your doorstep.  The Art Festival opens on August 29, 2015, and concludes the next day, August 30, 2015.  Please come out and support these artists and their efforts at this event.
 
We are sure you will be pleased with the beauty, thought, and expression these artists have put into their works.

 
Seventy-six Trombones Led the Big Parade!  

This year’s Founders’ Day Parade might not have 76 trombones, but it will have the Lafayette High School Marching Band, the Lafayette High School Cheerleaders, and other great participants. Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 29th, at 9:00 a.m., along Manchester Road and Taylor Road.

 
Celebrate Wildwood - Founders’ Car Show

One (1) of the major venues of the City’s three (3) day Celebrate Wildwood Event, which this year recognizes its 20th Anniversary, is the always popular and fun Car Show. This year’s show is planned for Saturday, August 29, 2015, and registration begins at 10:00 a.m. through 12:00 p.m. (noon). Great awards are planned in six (6) categories and everyone can enjoy all of the other activities and great food and beverages that are planned that day as well. Providing the right mood for the Car Show and the great entries will be the Back Street Cruisers, which play the best music for enthusiasts and participants alike.

Registration fee is $10.00, with all proceeds benefiting Children’s Cancer Fund through Wheels-in-Motion.
 
Following the Car Show, a car cruise is planned, from the event grounds in Town Center Area, then along many of the City’s most beautiful rural roads, to Historic Route 66, for dinner at the Big Chief Roadhouse – 17352 Manchester Road. The Celebrate Wildwood 20th Anniversary Event is less than two months away and volunteers are needed to help with the Art Festival, Car Show, and other venues. 2015 Farmers Market in Wildwood Every Saturday

The City’s 2015 Farmers Market Season, at the Town Center Plaza (221 Plaza Drive), is open every Saturday, now through the Fall. The market begins at 8:30 a.m. and continues through 12:30 p.m. Returning managers of the market, Rene’ and George Sackett, continue to promote a “producers’ only” type of facility, with an emphasis on locally-grown, produced, or made products being offered at it. The intent of this type of market is to create an atmosphere that caters to the desires and needs of its customers here in Wildwood, with the best varieties available, and products you can trust and feel good about eating or using in your home.
 
So, remember, to visit the Wildwood Farmers Market, every Saturday, now through the Fall, with plenty of convenient parking right next to it. Come on out and meet the market managers and make it a morning in Wildwood. Bethel United Methodist Church 91st Annual Chicken Dinner

Bethel United Methodist Church will host its 91st Annual Chicken Dinner, from 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 19, 2015, at Bethel United Methodist Church (17500 Manchester Road in Wildwood).  Bethel United Methodist Church is located 1.5 miles west of State Route 109, just past Wildwood Middle School.

Basic Life Support Program

Wildwood Municipal Building (16860 Main Street)
Thursday, September 17, 2015, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon)

Registration is open for a certified American Heart Association course on Basic Life Support, including qualification on Automated Electrical Defibrillation (AEDs).    Successful completion of the program also allows certification as a provider for a two-year period, before requiring recertification.  The course will be led by a certified nurse instructor.  Participants must be Wildwood residents and a minimum of 18 years of age.  Please pre-register at the following link:  http://www.cpr-n-more.com/course/cpr-training-thursday-september-17-2015/

American Flag Disposal

The City of Wildwood accepts retired American flags for dignified disposal.  Please bring worn flags to City Hall, 16860 Main Street, and leave them with the receptionist.  All flags collected will be relinquished to the Boy Scouts of America for proper disposal.  US Flags should never be placed in the trash.

Operation Clean Stream registration is now open!

The Open Space Council's 48th annual Operation Clean Stream is right around the corner. Last year over 2,225 volunteers donated over 7,000 hours of their time. Thanks to their hard work we removed 9,000 lbs of metal, 2,481 tires and 6 large construction dumpsters filled to the brim with trash from our waterways. We want you to join us as we anticipate another successful year of impacting Missouri's open spaces!
